Archive for smog test

One trend that is gaining steam is when someone is buying a used car, they want the maintenance records. Most people are now wanting to see if a car they want to buy has a record of maintenance. Because after all if somebody took care of a car you can trust it will last longer. So when you have a car it is more important to keep good records.  Because a buyer will want to see that.

So some things you can do is every time you go in to get service for your car keep a receipt of it.  In my San Diego auto repair business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done.Be sure that whatever company you are going to get service from will do the same.  This could mean the difference in getting the price you want or settling for a lot less.

Another thing, when you take your car in and get a tune up, make sure you keep that record.Getting your vehicle tuned up on a regular schedule will help it run longer and smoother. It is also beneficial in making your car pass any sort of smog test a lot easier.  In my San Dieg smog check center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.

Finally you want to keep good records of when you take your car in for brake maintenance. This is a big part of caring for your vehicle and its maintenance. It one thing that a prospective buyer will want to look at.  Because the last thing a new buyer wants is a big expensive brake service they need.  So in my San Diego brake shop I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.

Hopefully you see how important maintenance is if you want to sell your car for top dollar.A lot of buyers now want a history of mainteance for the cars they want to buy.By making sure to keep all your maintenace records you can show that you did take care of it.

Important facts about car maintenance

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Today in this ear, everybody has to have a car. There are even some people who need to use planes. But the car to many people is crucial to live in this world. It gets people to and from work.It can take people when they need to go shopping. It transports people to their schools. So what I have to share with you is the 3 crucial parts of having your car in good working order.

This is from a perspective from my experience running a San Diego auto repair company.  The two areas I want to address is your safety and your car’s long term health.

So when it comes to safety you can put all types of maintenance as being critical to safety. But there is a part of your car that is critical to safety. That part of the car is your brakes. With automobiles going much faster than they used to, good brakes are a must. With people being distracted with so many things you really need good brakes.By taking the proper steps to care for them you will always have the ability to brake in time.Brakes that you make sure are well maintained will save lives and save money.  I have seen it first hand running a San Diego brakes shop.

In relation to your car, your car’s overall health will be dependant on how well maintained you keep your car. Some of the critical things that have to be done are getting tune ups and oil changes. By making an effort to always change the oil you allow your car to run smoother and longer.By not making sure your oil is always changed you can end up ruining your engine.

Another thing you want to do is have regular tune ups.If you are able to accomplish that, you will keep your car’s major functions running properly.  By doing this once again your car will runner smoother and cleaner.  If you don’t do this your car will run bad.  Some of the consequences could lead to failed smog tests.  Most of the cars that fail in my San Diego smog check shop are the ones that didn’t take care of those things.

So in doing these few things what you accomplish is the safety of you and your loved ones and the safety of your car.

Ways to save money through your car

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Today most Americans are trying to find ways to save more of their money. With the state our economy is in, you can’t really find fault in them. They find ways to get rid of extra expenses.Or they might not go out as much. They are not purchasing things they have no use with. But I would like to examine a way that might not have crossed your mind. That way you can find with your car.

When most people think of their cars and saving money it usually involves saving gas. They try to come up with ways of spending less money on gas.But what I would like to offer is the fact that if you keep your car properly maintained you can save a lot more.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With most cars people usually don’t think of maintenance. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late. They wait for the inevitable part breaking down or something going wrong. But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.

As an example let look at your brakes. If you do proper maintenance with your brakes you are able to avoid expensive repairs.  If you don’t you can  have expensive discs you have to repair.Or you might find the need to have the brake shoes replaced.  By properly using your brakes and maintaining them you can save money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brakes shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.Things like the brake fluid and checking it to make sure it has enough.

Or a lot of people won’t take their cars for tuneups.  They let the engine go.  They don’t change the oil as much as they should. This leads to the engines running bad in your cars.  So bad that it won’t pass a smog test.  From what I have seen running a San Diego smog check shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you properly maintain your car you can keep it in good shape. The engine can then run properly and much smoother.Wait longer then you should and you will end up spending a lot more money then expected.

Hopefully this shows you that you can save money by maintaining your car. Spend your money now and you will end up spending less in the future.

What to inspect in used cars

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Well the time of irrational exuberance is now long gone. For quite a few Americans those types of luxuries like new cars are now gone. Now in these times when a family is in need of a new car they have to look into a used car. This is made clear by all of the finacial woes the big three car makers are experiencing.  There sales are down.

But most families will still need some sort of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice. That alternative choice is a used car.

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you have decided to buy that used car, you do not want to purchase a lemon. So by taking the time to perform a good inspection, you may avoid costly repairs.

So when you are looking over these cars remember these couple of items to inspect.First thing you have to check is the brakes.  We do San Diego brakes in our shop.So I have seen firsthand that needing your brakes repaired is an expensive option. If you buy an auto that the owners didn’t take care of the brakes, that could lead to very expensive repairs. The last thing you want to have to pay for is an entire braking system.  So make sure the brakes are good.

Second you want to make sure it is running clean.  In other words can it pass a smog test.  In my business I do smog tests in San Diego. The last thing you are going to want is the purchase of a used car that needs some expensive repairs.Especially if the repairs are going to involve any emmission problems.

If you purchase a car that can’t pass a smog test that isn’t good.  It is a sign that the car wasn’t taken care of.What probably happened is they didn’t do any tuneups or oil changes.  These could lead to more problems in the long run.

If you just check out these few items you can save money. By not checking you can be in for some major repairs. When you need to save money, I am pretty sure you don’t want that.

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

In this economy to save money we need to use every possible way.It won’t take a lot for you to see that a lot of Americans are having a hard time in this economy. But rather than whining about things we can seek out many more ways to save money.

So I would like to offer some perspective from a San Diego auto repair shop owner. Now you may be thinking that I would be biased but listen to me first. After your reading of this you are going to see that it is sensible and money will be saved.

One of the tips on saving money is by making sure we are able to keep our cars for longer periods of time. In the height of this boom economy when everybody was benefiting people would just trade their cars all over the place. They just went and traded their cars went it was older.  So in reality most people never even considered maintaining a car.

Well the way the economy is right now, we don’t have that luxury available anymore. Most folks won’t be able to just get a brand new car nowadays.People now must keep the old ones longer. What it means is you will have to make an effort to maintain their cars.

One of the major items of maintenance is being certain you are able to pass a smog check.  Once your car gets older it is required by law.If you are unable to pass the smog check, that can be the start of expensive repairs.  I know this first hand running my San Diego smog check shop.

There are some things you are able to do to help make certain you pass the test.  You can always keep your car tuned up.  You can make sure to change the oil and oil filter. You can check to see that the muffler works good with no problems.

This is the area where you may lose some money. If you are unable to pass the smog check you might be in for some expensive repairs. So by ensuring that you follow these maintenance tips you will be able to save money.By doing the right things in maintaining your car now you will save yourself from major repairs later.

Do not forget to do brake maintenance as well.  With my experience with our San Diego brakes shop this is important as well. By just making sure your brake pads aren’t worn down will save your disc brakes. Not having it maintained can be the start of some expensive repairs.Follow these tips and you won’t have a problem saving money.

Smog Checks and Used Cars

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

In the economy we live in, most families are going to choose to buy a used car rather than a new car.

With that being the case, there will be a lot of issues concerning finances that go into place when making a used car purchase.

When I say financial considerations, I am not just talking about the sales price.

When you represent a family and were really looking for ways to save money, you obviously don’t want to buy a used vehicle that has extra repair expenses that you weren’t prepared for.Especially if your budget did not have those extra expenses in it.

So one of the major things to be aware of is having to do a smog test.  The last thing you want to have to do is make expensive repairs for a failed smog test.  I have seen too many used cars in my San Diego auto repair business have this happen.

So when you are making the purchase of that used car, some things to consider are here.

Under a law passed in 2005, if your car is 1976 or older you don’t ever need a smog check. So if your vehicle is newer than that your car will need to be tested based on state emission laws. You can learn about your state if you call the Bureau
of Automotive repair at (800) 952-5210.

If you live in California and are buying a used car you may need a San Diego smog check. If the car has been sold and registered in California for the first time, you will have to get a smog check.

Otherwise, if the car is in it’s 5th or 7th year, a smog test done biennially will be needed.

If you made the car purchase in another state but live in California, you will have to find out if your vehicle can pass a smog test.  Generally California is much stricter.

With that being the case, you want to keep that in mind when purchasing your vehicle.

Costs for a smog test San Diego generally run between $30 to $80.But as previously mentioned, it isn’t the biggest cost. The biggest cost will be if costly repairs are needed.

So when purchasing the used car, make sure you find out if the vehicle has recently passed a smog test.

You don’t want any surprise expenses popping up when your goal was to save money by buying a used car.

Follow these pieces of advice when making a purchase of a used vehicle and a lot of money will be saved.
