How to pass a Smog Test

In our day and age, the automobile is one of life’s necessities right up there with food and shelter. And with our natiional economy such as it is, everybody is trying to keep their cars longer.

Well when this happens and your car gets older, there are some things about your car’s maintenance you are going to have to become aware of.  I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop

One of those things is when you have to go and get a smog test for your car. Until the day your car turns seven years old, you will find a lot of people don’t even think about it.

But be warned, if you do fail the smog check, what was supposed to be a small $50 smog check suddenly turns into a huge auto repair bill.

When you have to have your car pass the smog check so you can renew the registration, follow these bits of advice to ensure your car passes the smog check.

So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.

First, be positive that your vehicle is running correctly.  If you feel the vehicle is not running right, immediately take it to a auto repair shop and have them find out what is wrong. Then have it fixed before your smog test.

Second is an easy tip but you will find it is necessary and that is to take your car for a drive.  Remember to pass the smog test, your vehicle needs to be efficient at burning fuel with as little smog emmissions as possible. When you don’t take the time to warm up the car, these causes the car not to have the correct combustion.  If that happens, you stand a chance of failing.Just take it for a drive for 15 minutes or so and you will get your car to run optimally when it is taken in.

Third, start using fuel additives. This has to be done during the time you fill up your car with gas.You just add some to the gas in the gas tank. What’s going to happen is this gets the emmission levels lower because it cleans the intake of your car and exhaust paths. This makes it possible for the fuel and air to freely flow.

Fourth, have your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This small trick will make your vehicle have more stability when driven and more accuracy when you have the smog test. This greatlly improves the emmission’s overall output because it helps the engine maintain a steady load.

Finally, have your oil changed.  If your engine oil needs to be changed and is contaminated, this could very well cause you to fail your smog test. Oils with contamination are high in hydrocarbons, and this will cause the car to fail the test.

Follow our guidlelines and tips and you are going to have a good chance of passing the smog check with flying colors.  Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.
